60 Seconds with Denise on Entertainment

We took a few minutes to chat to the new face of The Mall, Denise Van Outen and see what it takes to keep her entertained.

Keep checking these pages as we'll be bringing you Denise's top entertainment product picks throughout the year.

Do you watch much TV?

With such a busy schedule it's a bit of a luxury. I think our TV is the best in the world. But I don't watch soaps, ever - they can take over your life. I am looking forward to the return of Jordan & Peter - it's my guilty pleasure!

Are you a texter... or a caller?

I'm a people person - I like to hear a real voice at the end of the phone and then have a good natter. I hate just leaving messages. But if I'm in a rush I'll text.

What's your favourite sort of music?

I have a varied taste. For example when I go running I need a beat and like listening to Girls Aloud or Madonna (I do love pop). When I am chilling I like to listen to James Morrison or Eva Cassidy. I am always in the mood for older stuff ...The Eagles (love their new album), The Carpenters, Carol King. A pretty eclectic mix really.

What would be on your ideal MP3 playlist?

All of the above - but with some current stuff. The new Kings of Leon album is cool.

If you could have a ticket to see any artist in concert who would it be?

That's easy - I just have to see Stevie Wonder - he is brilliant, and always has been.

What's been the best show you've appeared in personally?

Oh, that's a tough question. I've enjoyed all of my shows because of the people involved. On reflection I think the best experience was doing Chicago on Broadway as New York is such an exciting place. Tell Me On a Sunday was a special experience because I had the stage all to myself. I'd like to do another show later this year if the opportunity came up.

What live show did you last go to?

It was the best pop concert I've seen in a long time - definitely Girls Aloud at the O2 Arena. They are all great and since Kilimanjaro Cheryl and Kimberley have become good friends of mine.

How often do you go to the cinema...or the theatre?

Quite often actually - Lee and I try to go out whenever we have a free evening - I recently went to see Oliver. Jodie Prenger is lovely and was so good in it. I know how hard it is to keep up that standard in a west end musical day in day out. I loved Slumdog for the romance. And the outfits in Sex & The City were to die for!

What would be your favourite night out then?

A night out with my girlfriends...a meal (probably sushi) then on to a bar ...and maybe a little dance. Won't be late though as all my friends have got kids now. Where I live now there are loads of country pubs - so no excuses.

What do you think of girl bands - which is your favourite?

As I've said - I love pop and we have some terrific girls at the top in the uk right now. It won't surprise you to hear that I love Girls Aloud - they've captured the spirit of the moment. The fun they have just shines through and they've done some wonderful songs that will last, I'm sure

Do you play computer games?

No, never! Gadgets confuse me. I may have the latest phone but I don't know how it works. I do have an ipod though - it comes with me everywhere, if that is a 'gadget'. Oh, I'm currently saving up for a Bang & Olufson sound system for my new house.

How would you describe yourself in terms of your job?

Well, I've got 'Entertainer' on my passport - if that isn't too presumptuous?
