Luton Mela is back! Promoting Harmony through Artistry.

If you want to see and hear the very best in music, culture and artistic performances this year look no further than the Luton Mela 2010, offering a twin treat with 'Mela @ The Mall' on Saturday 31st July, 12pm - 4pm, & 'Mela @ the Park' on Sunday 1st August, 12pm-7pm.

The Luton Mela will showcase international, national and local South Asian performers featuring Bhangra, Bollywood and Bangla sounds as well as Asian Urban and Fusion music. The Mela festival will also incorporate other cultural performances such as Steel Pan, Reggae, African drumming and traditional Chinese entertainment.

Mela @ The Mall
Visit the Central Sq stage @ The Mall where there will be a show from 12-4pm featuring Dhol drummers and Bollywood dancers alongside well known acts and fashion shows. Plus around the centre there will be henna artists, face painters, stilit walkers and more to give you a taste of the true Mela experience.

Mela @ The Park
The programme line up is still being finalised however negotiations with some top artistes are in progress and the cream of the Asian music scene in the UK are anticipated to be performing on the main Mela stage this year. Also across the park you will find recycling workshops, funfair amusements, childrens' activities, carnival arts, street entertainment, the Mela Food Village, ethnic arts & craft stalls and much more.

Zulfqar Ahmed , Chair of the Luton Mela, said: "The Luton Mela is a great way to celebrate Luton in Harmony and we are very excited to welcome The Mall on board enabling us to have a whole weekend event for the first time. By presenting the artistic diversity of southern Asia and other diverse cultures, the Mela aims to enhance understanding between the different communities in Luton. Over the next two years the Luton Mela will be embracing the spirit of the London 2012 Olympics and the Cultural Olympiad. We are currently the biggest event of its kind in the East of England region and really putting Luton on the cultural map with our unique event, The Mela gets bigger and better each year!"

The Mela is being produced and managed by Luton Mela Ltd. (Mela Arts CIC), a community led social enterprise in partnership with The Mall Luton, for 'Mela @ The Mall', and support from Luton Borough Council and Luton Cultural Services Trust for 'Mela @ the Park'.
