Ready, Set, Read! Summer Reading Challenge 2024

Why not take part in The Summer Reading Challenge? The Reading Agency and libraries are excited to introduce this year's Summer Reading Challenge. It takes place every year during the summer holidays. You can sign up at your local library, choose your reading goal, then read any books of your choice to collect special stickers and other rewards along the way – all for FREE. There is a digital platform too, so the fun can carry on at home! Children can take part in the Challenge at summerreadingchallenge.org.uk or scan the QR code below

They can choose any books they like! Fact books, fiction, joke books, picture books, eBooks, audio books, the choice is theirs. Visit our Summer Reading Challenge hub, linked above, for more information on how your family can take part for free and to find events in libraries, online activities and book recommendations.

Children's reading can 'dip' during the long summer holidays if they do not have regular access to books and encouragement to read for pleasure and this can be a problem for schools to put right in the new term. The Reading Agency’s annual Summer Reading Challenge really helps by getting over 700,000 children regularly into libraries over the summer, with thousands more taking part online. There is no other free reading activity that involves so many children, introduces families to their library, encourages children to choose books freely and independently and is endorsed by parents and teachers.
